It is important that you know your family medical history. If others in your family have had colon cancer or even colon polyps, you are more at risk. You need to let your doctor know if these problems tend to run in your family so you can work to prevent it from happening to you.

Step #6 - Quit Smoking

If you are smoking, then you are increasing your risk of colon problems. The tobacco seems to increase the size of polyps in the colon, and when you smoke, carcinogens are then carried to the colon, which can increase your risk of cancer.
